Do you NEED advanced vocabulary for a high IELTS score?
Probably the most common piece of advice that you will see in #IELTS videos on YouTube or on social media posts and websites is that "You must use lots of advanced vocabulary!"
These so-called experts even tell students that perfectly correct sentences are not good enough because you must dazzle the examiner with obscure words.
This is terrible advice! I cannot stress enough how damaging this message is.
Instead of doing that, you should always aim to use the RIGHT word. By that, I mean just use whatever word is appropriate for a particular situation. Replacing it with something obscure will never help improve your score.
As such, when you prepare for IELTS, just focus on slowly building up your #vocabulary with a focus on accuracy instead of trying to use shortcuts by seeking obscure words.
