Seal Survives GHOST NET

Ghost net entanglements of this size harm the animal immediately. The extra weight of the wet net slows them down on land and in the water, they cannot hunt anymore, and each movement forces the net deeper into the seal's skin. It does not take long before starvation sets in.

This entangled animal was weakened and fast asleep when the OCN rescuers spotted her. They do not need a rescue net, they can simply grab the ghost net to keep the animal from moving away.

It takes only a few cuts to free her skinny body from the net. The rescuers encourage her to go and eat - she needs a good layer of fat to protect her from the cold! 🦭
