A quiet neighborhood in Shreveport, Louisiana has been left shattered after a horrific act of domestic violence claimed the lives of eight children in what authorities are treating as one of the most disturbing family killings in recent memory.

Police say 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, a former Army National Guardsman, opened fire inside his home on Sunday April 19th 2026, following a heated confrontation with his wife, 34-year-old Shaneiqua Pugh.

Investigators believe the argument was fueled by the collapse of their relationship after Pugh discovered Elkins had allegedly been unfaithful and intended to end the marriage.

Relatives told reporters that tensions had been building for weeks, with the couple’s relationship deteriorating rapidly after the alleged affair came to light. The situation reached a deadly breaking point during the dispute at the family’s residence.

Inside the home at the time were multiple relatives, including the couple’s four daughters. Also living there were Pugh’s sister, 33-year-old Keosha, her partner Troy Brown, and their two children.

In a sudden and devastating escalation, Elkins allegedly turned a firearm on the household, killing seven children along with a nephew before the scene came to a close.

Family members described the violence as unimaginable, saying there had been signs of strain but nothing that suggested such an extreme outcome. The loss has sent shockwaves through both the local community and extended family networks, many of whom are struggling to process the scale of the tragedy.
