Squid Eggs

Squids don't just produce eggs by the dozens, but they can actually lay thousands at once. They're usually found in clusters made up of capsules that are about two inches long and finger-shaped. Each sac can hold up to 200 eggs, and the females can lay about 20 capsules in total. And there's actually a reason behind these.

These eggs are tasty food for fish and other predators, so to ensure the survival of their species, squids lay tons of them. Another interesting fact is that squid eggs also contain a protein that drives male squids crazy. And when they get close enough to touch, they turn into mean fighting machines, ready to defend their eggs from attackers.

American Robin Eggs

Robin egg's blue is called that for a reason. These birds lay brightly coloured eggs, and they look like this due to bile pigments, found in the mother robin's blood. One bird can lay 3 to 4 eggs, and spend up to 2 weeks sitting on the eggs until they finally hatch. And the nest itself is carefully built using mud, grass, twigs and other plant material.

In a robin couple, the male brings these things to his partner, who then makes the nest. Generally speaking, though, wild bird eggs come in loads of different colours. This is either because it helps camouflage against hungry egg-eating predators, or to protect them from the harmful UV rays of the sun.
