FinTech valuations & the UK's competitive position. Mike Harding, Ruth Wandhofer & Charlie Delingpole
Why you should watch: The Kalifa Report, the Hill Report, the Budget... There is no doubt that the UK government wants to keep London (and the UK more generally) in the very top group of locations for FinTech startups and for raising capital. There is also talk of (another) tech-based market to rival Nasdaq, and, of course, lots of controversy over plans to make London more attractive to SPACs. Will it work? Or will the problems that Brexit has posed erode the UK's competitive edge? Do we have the talent? Do we have the money? Three experts - including a tech entrepreneur who is in the process of showing that it can be done - discuss the possibilities.
Mike Harding has been with Oliver Wyman for 25 years, and is now Head of FinTech Innovation. He has been closely involved with the Kalifa Report, which was published last week (to general acclaim).
Ruth Wandhofer has recently been appointed Chair of the Payment Systems Regulator Panel, which is responsible for informing the PSR of industry trends and the impact they will have on the payments industry. She is also a partner in Gauss Ventures, an adviser to RTGS Ltd and a 'Top10 Global Influencer'.
Charlie Delingpole is the Founder and CEO of ComplyAdvantage, which is described as ' a global data technology company transforming financial crime detection'. ComplyAdvantage completed a US$50 million Series C funding round last Summer, and now has offices from New York to Romania. He is a former co-founder and CEO of MarketFinance.
