Bottas Hits Back at "Bull****" Sacking Claims

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has once again taken the backseat so far in the fight for the 2021 championship which currently is being contested between Bottas’ teammate Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. With the fight for the Constructors’ championship also being really close and Red Bull’s other driver Sergio Perez starting to find his groove, some have suggested that Bottas might end up losing his seat in the middle of the season itself so that Mercedes can bring in a stronger driver as replacement. Bottas has responded to this

Is Valtteri Bottas About To Lose His Mercedes Seat?

Bottas began by responding to suggestions that Mercedes may replace him in the middle of the 2021 season

“No, because I know I’m not going to be replaced in the middle of the season; as a team we don’t do that. I have a contract for this year, and I think there’s only one team that does that kind of things in F1 and we are not that”

He further explained why he isn’t worried

“So, no pressure from my side and I know how things are. There’s always bulls*** around, that’s part of the sport”

He then gave his thoughts on team orders

“About any team orders, etc, I’m not worried to be honest – not at all – I know there’s a bit of a gap now but it’s super early days and for me there’s no point starting to think about that, so, not worried”

He also added how the season is long and a lot of races are left

“Yes, there’s still 20 races to go, which is a huge amount of points, and I’m definitely not giving up on the goal for this year. I always believed that hard work will pay off so I’ll keep working hard and keep believing, and I know the results will come and it will pay off”

He concluded by stating why he hasn’t thought about next year

“It’s early days – I haven’t thought really about next year. As I’ve said earlier, my full focus is on here and now, because that is all that matters and that will normally bring a good future. So, I have no idea, and at the moment I don’t care”

McLaren’s Lando Norris feels that “it’s been, definitely, the best season” he’s had, “the best continuation of races that” he’s “had so far in Formula 1”

He also “would love to keep it up, but a good race doesn’t necessarily mean a lot of points and great position”

He further elaborated that “a good race could be if” they “finished eighth or ninth, it could be that” they’ve “achieved everything that” they can

He also pointed out that “it’s very close between a lot of the pack, especially towards the middle, and it can definitely swing one way or another”

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon feels that if their recent upgrades work in Spain “it’s going to be a good season for” them, so he thinks “it’s going to be a very important weekend”

Lewis Hamilton feels that they “have the best line up currently in terms of deliverables, in terms of the equilibrium” they “have within” their team”

He pointed out that teammate Valtteri Bottas “just got pole the last race, it's only the fourth race” and he thinks “people need to give him a break and let him focus on doing what he's doing”

He further added that “with the relationship with Valtteri, he's been an amazing team mate”

Verstappen thinks that Red Bull hiring current Mercedes personnel is “quite normal”

He further explained “that when a team has been so dominant for such a long time, you will try to get those kinds of people”

Hamilton, meanwhile, pointed out that Mercedes “is a huge team, it’s a big team and it's not about one individual or even five, it's about a collective”

They've “got an amazing collective group of people that still remain solid and focused on winning this championship” added Hamilton

Perez has suggested that they “have had such limited track time with these cars this year with the new rules of testing and also in practice that everything happens very quickly”

“So, it’s very hard to do any work like” they “used to in practices when” they “had more time, now it’s really a couple of runs and the day is over”

He added that he has “a very strong reference in Max, he’s obviously taking 110% out of the car from practice 1 all the way until Sunday, so” he thinks first he needs “to get to that level”

“It makes no sense to follow another direction because” he’s “just going to get lost, so” he’s “working in a very similar basis as” his “team mate”

He further revealed that what he “used to do in the races just simply doesn’t work with this car, so it’s like resetting” himself “into the race”

“Barcelona will always hold special memories for” Max Verstappen as it was the venue for his “first F1 win”

He also divulged that he doesn’t “really get emotional that often but” he “was pretty close to tears that day and so was” his “dad”
