Closing an in-ground swimming pool | first time, solo

After some YouTube videos and guidance from my local pool store, I closed my 13,000 gallon swimming pool solo, by myself! It took me 3 days (start and stop, ran into problems).

I thought I'd have more trouble with the pool cover, but it really wasn't that bad! I didn't end up falling in the pool like I thought I might.

It took me some time to figure out which valve controlled which return line to the pool. And I wasn't sure how much air pressure I could use in the lines. Previous research on in-ground sprinkler plumbing led me to that I could use at least 40 psi and be ok. I actually went with 30 psi to be safe.

I did have a couple of misfortunes. One being that my brand new pump motor stopped working! The start capacitor already went bad... they just don't make things like they used to. My old motors capacitor (also died this year) was made in 2013... so that's 7 years of service. I guess the reviews on Hayward motors might be true afterall.

Ended up the pool slowly with a submersible pump. You bet I did file a warranty claim on the new motor.

Overall, closing is easy once you know the steps. I think next time it will take me only half a day, hopefully.

I will be working on the video where I opened the pool this summer. Yes, I know I'm posting things a little backwards. And this video comes a little late, as most people have probably closed their pools already.

Please feel free to ask questions! Or make comments on what I did wrong and how much of an idiot I am!
