Solar bottle skylight in Niger, Africa
While in Niger working on a hospital we had the opportunity to build and install a simple bottle skylight in a worker's dark little house, showing a young man how to do it in the process. Even the single 1-liter bottle made a big difference inside the house and really brightened it up. It only works during daylight hours, of course, but the folks seemed really happy with it and I expect the technology is spreading over there now.
