Simple pot skirt on Rocket stove for higher efficiency

This easy-to-make pot skirt gives a big boost in cooking efficiency to this Rocket stove, and probably to many other types of wood stoves as well. Previously, without the skirt it took 40 minutes to boil 10 liters of water - with the skirt it cut that in half to 20 minutes! There was a breeze blowing in both cases and I expect that amplified the difference, but still impressive.

I started with an old piece of sheet metal from a discarded water heater, punched the middle hole, cut an X the size of the hole in a cinder block and folded the triangles down, then marked a circle larger than the pot and cut radial slits up to it. I folded the tabs up all around, overlapping them as I went and forming them to the curve. Three little stones and presto! the pot skirt is ready.

Notes:
A tab can be folded back out to accommodate a frying pan handle.
Spills from boil-over are contained.
The middle hole can be shaped to fit whatever stove you use.
Additional sheet metal cylinders could be made to fit around smaller pots and simply dropped into place inside the larger skirt.

Let me know if this is a help for you.
