Stirling fan and smart phone charger
Last night we lost power due to the storms and I ended up running this Stirling fan in our bedroom for six hours while we slept, until the power came back on. During that time my cell phone battery almost went dead and so I came up with this combination of fan and cell phone charger. The voltage regulator is adjustable and the output is fed to a stock 12-volt USB adapter. My phone is plugged into that and charges fine off it. So next time the power goes off we'll have a cool breeze and white noise in the background while my cell phone is charging as well!
The cooling is provided by the 1 quart aluminum can and thermosyphon action that passively circulates the water through the system.
With the voltage regulator no battery is needed with the system since the output doesn't change much at all even if the input voltage varies a lot.
