Our online series of Live & Ticking events keep you updated with the latest BHF science taking place across the UK.

In this edition, we look at heart surgery and what to expect from such procedures.

Event speakers:

Fearghal McKinney – Head of BHF Northern Ireland hosts this edition and poses viewer questions to our panel.

Saskia Blake – Heart patient talks about how she underwent mitral valve repair surgery in November 2022, at the age of 31 and the emotional impact of needing surgery and the anxious lead up to it, and of the relief felt knowing that she's on the road to recovery.

Yianna Theodorou – BHF Senior Heart Story Officer navigates through Saskia’s story.

Bilal Kirmani – Consultant Cardiac Surgeon from Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital discusses the development of heart surgery throughout the years and some of the most common heart procedures, and what patients should expect when they undergo surgery.
