Oscillating cable drive teaching model, waterwheel and remote pump
The Amish have long used this method to pump water from wells located some distance away from their stream-driven waterwheels. This is just a model to show the principle of how it works. The cables can be quite long since they're supported by swinging wires or ropes suspended from posts along the way. Counterweights on both ends keep the cables taut. I expect other power sources could be used in this way as well to transmit motion over long distances. In this model the waterwheel was made from a PVC cleaner can, two jar lids, and a bunch of Popsicle sticks. Lots of fun!
