This Is Your Life (Guitar) - The Killers - Day & Age

This is how Dave Keuning performed the song during the Day & Age tour of 2008-2009.

I’ve used the same finger positions as Dave after studying performances on YouTube.

The guitar is in standard tuning.

Dave’s live guitar part enters someway through the song with that hypnotic riff, which is also used in the outro.
The 9 note riff is mainly inside picking, other than the penultimate down note: the pattern is up, down, down, up, down, down, up, down, down.
During the riff, Dave keeps his index finger planted and only lifts it and brings it down again at the end of each pattern.

After the intro riff, Dave slides down and starts a damped strumming pattern (little finger is barring at the 6th fret), which he strums in very particular way.

Following this, there are a number of barre chords. The fourth chord is an Eb and Dave originally played this as an A shaped barre at the 6th fret, but by later in the tour (and from all performances onwards), he had switched to playing it as an E shaped barre at the 11th fret - which is what I’ve replicated.

The next part is a strummed dyad section on the G and B strings and after that, more barre chords.

Finally, there’s the extended guitar riff during the outro which continues to the end.

Guitar-wise, Dave usually used his Ebony Gibson ES-335 Dot and occasionally a Gibson Vegas Standard in Natural.

I’m using a 2005 Ebony Gibson ES-335 Dot.

I’m not certain there were any effects used in this song during the Day & Age tour.
In some later tour performances, it sounds like there may be a bit of delay on the barre chords in the second half of the song.

I played the barre chord parts in the song on a cleanish setting and used a bit more drive for all the other parts including the riffs.
