Watch Idiot Tries Watchmaking (Kind Of)- How To Get Rid Of Scratches From A Tissot PRX Case Back

The Tissot PRX took the watch world by storm when it was first released back in February and it was set to be THE sub $500 watch of 2021, offering Genta design and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus wrist presence. When I reviewed it I absolutely loved it and I was taken aback by the amount of value it offered for $375. However, one of the biggest problems about the watch was that the seconds hand was misaligned. To make matters worse, it looked like it was a widespread issue amongst most PRXs.

In a previous video I removed the seconds hand from the PRX and it was a fun process that made me feel like I was a watchmaker! Not only did removing the seconds hand solve the misalignment issue but it also elevated the look of the PRX and gave it a new character. It really looks much more special. However, while taking off the caseback I ended up scratching it quite badly.

In this video, I do some watchmaking of sorts to fix the problem! I will take you through the tools needed to remove the scratches from a radially brushed surface and finally how to go about doing it at home and for free! Do bear in mind that repairing a brushed metal surface is not like repairing a polished metal surface because of the grain and direction of the brushing. While sanding if there are any deviations from the grain and direction it will not achieve a smooth look.
