How The Jabulani Herd & Wild Elephants Sleep | Senior Carer, Owen Dube

Experienced Senior Carer, Owen Dube unpacks the different sleeping habits of the Jabulani herd and wild elephants.

Both the Jabulani herd and wild elephants sleep laying down from time to time, but choose to sleep standing up especially when exposed to various disturbances in the wild, such as lions and other animals bumping into them in the night. This goes for the wild herd, since the Jabulani herd sleep overnight in a protected homestead area, where they can sleep comfortably on fresh hay and sand mounds provided by their carers, allowing them to sleep for much longer compared to wild elephants.

A lot of care and attention goes into looking after a rescued herd of elephants, and we are so appreciative for our dedicated team of carers in doing the hard work on the ground. We are also grateful for Owen's role and hope you enjoy learning from him and his experiences with the Jabulani herd!
