While there were rumours that Ferrari would be axing current team principal Mattia Binotto as a result of the recent string of bad results, those rumours have so far been unsubstantiated and Ferrari’s senior management has once again expressed its support and trust in Binotto’s abilities.

I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World:

Mattia Binotto Can Start a New Winning Cycle

Ferrari chairman John Elkann began by revealing their target to become competitive again

"Today we are laying the foundations for being competitive and returning to winning when the rules change in 2022. I am convinced of it”

He then revealed the confidence he has in Mattia Binotto

“Mattia Binotto, who has taken the helm of the Scuderia for a year, has all the skills and characteristics to start a new winning cycle. He was in Ferrari with [Jean] Todt and [Michael] Schumacher. He knows how to win and from next year he will work with two drivers who are young and ambitious like us"

He then reiterated that things will take time similar to the time preceding their dominant run in the early 2000s

"A long path awaits us. When Todt started that historic cycle (of five consecutive titles) in 2000, we came from a fast that lasted for more than 20 years, from 1979”

"It took time, from when he arrived in 1993 to when he brought Ferrari back to victory. The important thing, then, is to work on and off the track, bringing cohesion and stability, building the Ferrari we want step by step"

He concluded by summarizing the weak points of their current car

“We have had a series of structural weaknesses that have existed for some time in the aerodynamics and dynamics of the vehicle. We have also lost in engine power. The reality is that our car is not competitive”

More reports are circulating that Racing Point driver Sergio Perez’s contract has a special clause that allows the team to buy him out but it has to be exercised before the 31st of July

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel is “really looking forward to Silverstone, because the track is great”

He further added that “the weather and temperatures are usually unpredictable and that is another reason why it is not easy to find the right balance with the car”

Silverstone Police have reaffirmed that “there will be an exclusion zone around the circuit and F1 fans must not travel to it but should instead join the millions watching the races on TV”

Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly thinks that” there are things that need to be improved, especially in terms of aero” with their car

He also feels that “in the mid-field, several teams have made a big step from last year, especially Racing Point and McLaren”

Meanwhile McLaren’s technical director James Key thinks that they “have come away from the first triple-header recognizing similar strengths and weaknesses in the car from those” they “saw back at testing in Barcelona”

He also thinks that “as the only team to be changing engine partners between 2020 and 2021” their “design work and planning for next year is more critical than for others”

This he feels presents “a unique challenge in balancing upgrades for this year while ensuring” their “2021 car is moving ahead in parallel”

Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan does not think that Racing Point has cheated as “it’s not something in their make-up” and feels that the protests “could be a little bit of sour grapes on behalf of some of the teams”

Defending world champion Lewis Hamilton thinks that he has “won a lot, but” he hasn't “won as much as Michael” Schumacher
Is this new mentality the right approach for Ferrari?
