The Ferrari F1 gamble that unleashed Leclerc and left Vettel nowhere

Ferrari scored an unlikely podium finish in the British Grand Prix, but the fortunate result was a reward for Charles Leclerc putting himself at the sharp end when it counted during the weekend. That required Leclerc to drive a tricky Ferrari on the edge following a set-up gamble taken by the team to make up for the deficiencies of its 2020 car. Sebastian Vettel couldn't get on with it in the same way, so the ploy that gave one Ferrari driver the chance to compete near the sharp end left the other miles off the pace on race day.
