The Fisherman - Written by Leo Kottke

“The Fisherman” was written by Leo Kottke and recorded on his iconic “6 and 12 String Guitar” album (also known as the "Armadillo" album) in 1969. Fingerstyle guitarists learning to play his music will often try this tune because it’s a bit more approachable than some of his more musically complex tunes.

Kottke has continued to play this tune in many of his shows over the 50+ years that he’s been performing live. He has commented that this tune (and some of his other early tunes) were played too fast originally and he now plays them slower and more melodically. I’ve heard him play this in several of his concerts, and he plays it a bit differently every time, but it’s always slower than his early version.
