On the Sunny Side of the Ocean

This tune was written and recorded by John Fahey, the founder of a guitar style sometimes known as "American Primitive Guitar". As with many of Fahey's tunes, this one has a haunting quality about it that may well reflect some of the demons that plagued him throughout his life. Although quite ill and impoverished in his later years, John was an outstanding and innovative guitarist in his own right, and is responsible for "discovering" Leo Kottke in the late 1960's, and bringing Leo into the studio to record his landmark "6 and 12 String Guitar" album on John's Takoma record label. John Fahey was 61 years old when he died in 2001 following open heart surgery.
