Lavender Fields Forever - VERMONT VANLIFE | Solo Female Van life // USA Vanlife Road Trip-Ep.6
USA Vanlife Road Trip Series - Episode 6
State 3: Vermont!
Welcome to Vanlife Vermont, where I am totally relaxed and loving it!
We start the Vermont trip by stopping the van at a little creek off the highway and experiencing one of the many joys of Vanlife with a cat.
Cosmo stood at the door staring up at me with his darling eyes, so I agreed he could come with. He stepped into his harness and we went out into the woods. I had to carry him most of the way or we wouldn't have gone anywhere. Once by the water, he was a little nervous, but soon got used to it. That said, he was happy when we returned to the van!
Vanlife with a cat has been relentlessly rewarding and I'll definitely make sure Cosmo the Van Cat is featured on the channel more often!
Then we ventured up to the tippy-top of Northern Vermont and stayed at a Harvest Host lavender farm a mile of Canada. I don't know about you, but I didn't think Lavender could grow in this climate--goes to show the things you don't know you don't know. We spent a relaxing afternoon watching the Vermont sunset after I had the most amazingly relaxing massage of my life. Every product used was lavender-infused. Between the lovely scents and the breeze billowing through the curtains, I was completely at peace at this quaint little lavender farm in Vermont.
The next day we swam in the very cold, yet beautiful, Lake Willoughby. Lake Willoughby, Vermont, is a gorgeous clear-water lake squished between two mountains. It's idyllic.
We boondocked in the van on a grassy patch on the side of the highway, then traveled west to Burlington, Vermont. Unfortunately, the city of Burlington is made for walking with little space to park. By the time I found a place to park, I was out of the city and at a small park called Red Rocks. I took a walk and saw where the lake separates Vermont and New York.
After camping in Shelbourne, Cosmo and I were ready to leave the state, with just one more stop. We drove through gorgeous valleys to Lake Bomoseen where it was too chilly to swim in. I couldn't enjoy it long before succumbing to some sickness I couldn't identify. I felt all-around nauseous, lethargic, and achy. Apparently a nap and pizza was all I really needed, though.
We spent the last night in Vermont at Otter Creek Fun Center, which I imagine is a lot more lively when it's not Covid season. Now, I'm on my way to Massachusetts for the night before reaching Connecticut tomorrow!
As a solo female traveler, and solo female vanlifer, I have to pay attention not just to where I am, but HOW I am. I think daily about what's working and what's not working in the USA Vanlife Road Trip. Sometimes I get sick, sometimes I just need a nap, sometimes I need more Cosmo hugs. As life moves on, so do I, and I hope more solo female travelers are not dissuaded to be adventurous.
Next up: Connecticut!

MY VAN: 2001 Dodge Ram Van 3500 High-Top, converted from a handicap passenger van
MY DISCLAIMER: Most of the labor I did on my van was my first time doing those things, so I am very much not an expert. There are countless ways to convert a van into a livable home, this is just my way. This is a DIY budget van build, so I cut some corners you may not want to cut. Always use proper safety precautions and thorough research.
MY STORY: After backpacking in Europe and Asia for 14 months, I've decided to explore the USA in a converted campervan. In October of 2019, I bought my Dodge Ram 3500 and began converting it into my future home. I'm now living in it full-time with my cat, Cosmo, while traveling the USA and experiencing #vanlife. My plan is to hit the rest of the lower 48 states by the end of 2021.
