What Your HiHat Playing is Missing...
→ Conquer one-handed hihat 16ths at 80bpm in 5 simple steps. Download my FREE “Secret to Hihat 16ths” guide! https://the-non-glamorous-drummer.mykajabi.com/the-secret-to-hihat-16ths
Spoiler alert!! There really aren’t any secrets - just some simple techniques that I’m sure will help your left foot on the hats. Some of this you may already be doing! You may be on the right path to clean hihat opening and closing, and you just need some fine tuning. Either way, today we’re talking about how to clean up sloppy hihat playing. Often, this is the one thing missing in a lot of drummers’ hihat work. We’ll start by talking about specific left foot techniques, and we’ll discuss the coordination of our hands on the hats with our left foot on the pedal. This very well could be the one little thing that your playing is missing. Playing the hihat well is tough. Any little technique we can use to make things easier and sound better is well worth learning. If these are things that you know that you need to work on, start by just isolating the left foot. Then incorporate those foot techniques into creating hihat stabs with your hands. Take things slow, being sure to master the techniques and settle into something that’s comfortable for you. From there, your hihat playing is bound to be much more musical and clean!
