Woman 1: Do you do any blood work prior to the surgery?

Dr. Marvin: Not if you don't have something that we're concerned about in terms of going through the short anesthetic. So our threshold is much higher to order tests ahead of time than it would be for a surgery where we're expecting, maybe, you're going to get iron deficient in the future and we need to know how your kidney function is because you're going to get a bunch of different other things. So, not unless you need it to see where you are. Say, if you're an insulin-dependent diabetic, yes, I'm going to want to see what your electrolytes are and those kinds of things, but if you're a healthy, otherwise healthy, you know, 30-year-old with a BMI of 35 and you're not a smoker, you don't need much of anything.
