A 3 day hike to a spectacular wilderness area of the Kosciuszko National Park, where dense regrowth forests & wild rivers cascade rapidly down from their source. We begin near the confluence of the Snowy River & Gungarlin River rock hopping upstream past the Gungarlin weir ( part of the Snowy Hydro Scheme ) then follow along the banks of this unspoiled wild river until we reach the Botherum Plains where we will set up camp in the distance is Botherum Plains Hut built by the Willis family in 1962 on a lease they ran sheep till 1966 when grazing stopped in Kosciuszko National Park. There are quite a large number of groups of Brumbies on the plain with some groups numbering as many as a dozen horses, all up between 60-80 horses. They're on the other side of the creek a couple of hundred metres away, keeping their distance but always keeping an eye on us. On our second day we explore Bundara Creek & follow it downstream where the steep gradient creates some magical cascades & waterfalls.
This 3 day hike was done by the Canberra Bushwalking Club led by Lynda Groom
