Berlin Sportpalast Bunker - Historic Berlin

This is the remarkable Sports Palast Bunker in Berlin, which sat opposite the original (now demolished) Sports Palast building.

The Sportpalast ( see www,historicberlin.com for article) is most known for speeches and rallies that took place during the Third Reich, particularly Joseph Goebbels' 1943 "Total War" speech.

The bunker was constructed between 1942 -1943 by prisoners of war captured in Russia, and the eastern regions.

In the years 1945 and 1946 there were some attempts to blow up the bunker by soldiers of the US Army , but the attempts caused no serious damage to the building.
