The abandoned 1936 Olympic Village - Historic Berlin

A video from www.historicberlin.com

When the Olympic Bell tolled on that summers day in 1936, over 5,000 athletes from 50 countries marched into the vast stadium under the gaze of Adolf Hitler.

All of those athletes, trainers and assistants had been billeted at the specially built Olympic Village on the outskirts of the city.

The village was the very model of thoughtful planning and meticulous execution.

The remains of the village remains a mecca for urban explorers, as the sprawling complex managed to survive being shattered by six years of war and Russian post war occupation.

It was originally planned that the buildings would be used as an army barracks when the Games ended.

During Olympics, the village provided excellent sports facilities and basic housing for the athletes, boasting the very latest amenities for training and performance.
