Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 26, written in 1910.

00:00 - I. Allegro
07:59 - II. Sehr Langsam
16:41 - III. Rondo, Presto ma non troppo, capriccioso

This Violin Sonata by Dutch composer Brandts Buys is striking for its simple and appealing style, obviously inspired by folk music. Short melodies and motifs, which frequently recur, are accompanied by a varied palette of synchronizations, resulting in a continuously changing mood. Therefore, the sonata sometimes reminds of the impressionistic style of composers like Ravel and Debussy, but the piano writing shows clear influences from Brahms. These characteristics give this sonata a distinct individuality that clears Brandts Buys of being 'just a Brahms epigone'.
