District Spelling Bee 2017

It began at 9 a.m. with nearly 50 school-level winners or runner-ups. Then, more than three-and-a-half hours and about 300 words later, Clayton County Public Schools crowned its 2017 Spelling Bee Champion – Annie Vo, an eighth-grader at M.D. Roberts Middle School. Annie correctly spelled the word “dermatology” in the eleventh and championship round to claim top honors.
Joining Annie in qualifying for regional competition were Journee Love-Gates, fifth-grader from Edmonds Elementary School, first runner-up; Thurman Blake, eighth-grader from Eddie White Academy, second runner-up; and Ryan Odom, sixth-grader from Rex Mill Middle School, third runner-up.
The 2017 District Spelling Bee took place at the Performing Arts Center on Thursday, January 26, 2017.
