EU HAS ALLOCATE 5,2 MILLION MANAT TO SUPPORT NGOs IN AZERBAIJAN

On March 11, delegation of the European Union in Baku held a presentation of 15 civil society projects, the implementation of which started this year with financial support from the EU. The projects are implemented within the framework of two programs: "Non-state Actors in Development" and "The European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights."

Under the first direction, EU supported 7 projects on development of rural areas and regions. These projects will serve more than 20 thousand farmers and entrepreneurs in 25 districts. The total amount of the projects is 3 million manat. More than 20 thousand farmers will benefit from these projects in 25 districts. Total cost of the projects is 3 million manat.

The representative of EU Parviz Yusifov said that the project will enable project participants to increase their incomes by 10-30%.

Moreover, 50 small infrastructure projects will be carried out, where small businesses will be aided 900 thousand manat and more that hundred new farmer groups will be established.

According to the representative of the EU Mission Maryam Hajiismayilova, in the frame of "European Democracy and Human Rights Instrument" EU has allocated 2.2 million manat to support 8 projects on raising public awareness, protecting property rights, ensuring women's rights and monitoring of elections.

Mainly Public Association for Assistance to Free Economy implements projects on the protection of property rights. Head of the organization, Zohrab Ismayil noted that in the framework of the project, legal assistance had been provided to citizens in Baku, Ganja, Salyan, Masalli and Lankaran regarding protection of property rights. In addition, citizens' rights will be defended in 10 court cases.

Court proceedings have already started in one of these cases, namely the eviction lawsuit of 31 residents of a 9-storey building based on Mushfiq Huseynov Street, in Bayil District.

"In any country, civil society plays an indispensable role in protecting the most vulnerable segments of the population, monitoring of reforms and implementation of human rights commitments. EU is proud that it is the largest foreign donor to civil society in Azerbaijan," said the head of the EU Delegation, Malena Mard.

Since 2007, EU has financed 60 projects of civil societies costing a total of more than 12 million. Applications for participation in the projects are accepted through the official website of the EU.
