"January 20, 2005" by young Rasheed Shabazz

While George W. Bush held his coronation on January 20, 2005, a group of poets held a poetic protest at the College of Alameda, in Alameda, Calif.

The event, "Poetic Protest 2005: Electoral Politics," was organized by Wanda Sabir. Featured poets included Rafael Jesus Gonzales and Alameda's Poet Laureate Mary Rudge. The poem i shared was written that day during the event as i listened to other poets, and collected my thoughts from throughout the week.

I later wrote an article about the event – "Poetic Protest in Alameda" – that appeared in the Laney Tower newspaper.
