Free Camping with Harvest Hosts

Nothing beats free when it comes to finding great over night camping spots, and using Harvest Hosts comes close to that. There is an annual subscription fee but then you have access to almost 1000 businesses that will allow you to spend the night at their location. In general, this will be "boon docking" without any services but there are exceptions that might have some additional facilities. But you get to stay in some really great locations. We cover four of them in this video that we used on a trip from Indianapolis to the Maine coast. Some were better than others but they were all very interesting, with events going on at the host location and we got to meet some very interesting people at our stops. Common courtesy says that you should at least visit their company and consider buying something from them, although there is no strict requirement that you do so. And in most cases you will need to call ahead and make sure they have room for you. We always did that a couple of days ahead and only once did we have an issue where they were already full with their available spots to camp. We are used to dry camping so it was never an issue for us, and we have used highway rest stops as well as WalMart parking lots, and this is way more comfortable and way prettier.
