Victron Solar Remote Access

Victron Energy is a major supplier of components for use in solar electric systems. We recently added solar panels to our RV and added Victron MPPT solar controllers and a Victron smart shunt. The controllers convert the electrical energy from the solar panels to the correct voltage to charge the battery bank, and shunt measures the current into and out of the batteries to measure its state of charge.
All of this comes with electrical data on the amount of charge coming from the solar panel array and how much of that energy is stored in the battery bank, as well as keeping track of how much energy has been removed from the batteries so that an accurate state of charge can be measured.
Victron offers devices that will collect this data and transmit it to their free web site that allows the user to see all of this in real time, or as historical data. They also offer a version of their software for free that can be loaded into a Raspberry Pi computer at a significant cost savings. This video explores the data and gives an over view of how the system works.
