This post explores using a weighted vest for weighted calisthenics, running, walking, and increasing jump height. AKA: hypergravity training, or training like Goku!
Does Dragon Ball Z style gravity training really work? The closest thing most of us have access to is a weight vest. In this video, I explore training with a weight vest or other weighted clothing to see whether it can help build muscle, strength, and explosiveness.
To cut a long story short, weight vest training can be a very useful tool for learning new calisthenics skills like the muscle up. It's also useful for building plyometric, explosive power. The studies are a little vague on whether gravity training can improve jump height, but it does look promising.
What's perhaps surprising is just what a great cardio workout wearing a weighted vest is. It's also great for strengthening bones. Most importantly, Dragon Ball Z training makes you feel like Goku!
