PM needs to ‘take direct control’ of national security
Sky News contributor Catherine McGregor says she is extremely concerned sometime before or during the Presidential campaign there will be an “escalation of tensions in the Taiwan Straits”.
“And Australia for my money is sleep walking towards that eventuality,” she said.
Ms McGregor said the world will look back on COVID-19 as being the “least of the problems exported from China in 2020”.
She said in recent weeks China has increased its tensions with Taiwan, has engaged in crude naval provocations against Japan and Vietnam, and now Hong Kong faces another wave of repression.
“The hollow promise of the US pivot to Asia (is) finally laid bare,” she said.
“Scott Morrison needs to take direct control and have a broad national security audit and release a statement in his name, not the Department of Defence’s and do it now”.
