Andrews 'refusing to answer' security questions over China investment deal

Victorian Shadow Attorney-General Edward O'Donohue said the public has a right to know about the security details surrounding China's Belt and Road Initiative.

Victoria has confirmed it will push ahead with its plan to sign up to China’s US$1.4 trillion infrastructure program.

The Belt and Road Initiative is designed to link China with Asia, Europe and Africa via a massive infrastructure investment that will see the widespread construction of railways, motorways and ports.

China claims the deal will be mutually beneficial, but the federal government has criticised Victoria for signing up for the deal citing possible security implications.

Mr O'Donohue said despite frequent requests, the Andrews government has not released its national security advice about the deal.

He told Sky News it would be wiser for the Victorian government should be looking to diversify its trading markets rather than "putting all its eggs in the basket of Communist China."
