China's Belt and Road Initiative: Threat, Opportunity, or Both?

The White House is really turning up the heat on President Xi Jinping, and in response China is increasingly looking to Europe. But is Europe prepared to reciprocate? In 2018, private discussions within the EU have raised concerns on China’s Belt and Road Initiative as a potential obstacle to free trade because it might give an unfair advantage to Chinese companies. Is America's protectionist trade and economic policies toward Asia and Europe enough to force the rival powers into closer relationship? And if so, who wins and who ends up wishing things had turned out differently?
