Tempo squat jumps for higher verticals in volleyball

What?

Tempo squat jumps are an explosive power exercise that utilizes the lower body at a targeted tempo.

Why?

Tempo squat jumps help increase vertical jumping, lower body explosiveness and power. The tempo allows the body to adapt to loading the lower body muscles properly to prepare for jumping.

How?

In a squat stance, descend into a squat at a 3 second tempo. Once at the bottom of your deepest squat pause for a second. Next explode up by jumping, being sure to push off your toes too. Land and repeat for 3-4 sets of 3-6 reps. Progress this exercise by adding light dumbbells.
