Domestication and Foreignization in Translation

Have you ever read a translation and thought, “this sounds so natural, like it wasn’t even translated”? Or perhaps the opposite: “this sounds awkward, you can definitely tell it was translated from another language”? In this video, UConn professors Peter Constantine and Brian Sneeden discuss two common styles of literary translation: domestication and foreignization.
