Small Company vs Large Company: Which One Is Best?

Money
When it comes to money, larger companies tend to pay more than smaller companies. This not only may come in the form of salary, but also in benefits whether it be your retirement plans, insurance, ESOP programs, etc. I don't suggest you make a career move solely on money, but for the most part you will see that the larger companies pay more.

Career Advancement and Opportunity
To me, this has more to do with you as an individual than the size of the company. If you are a go getter and take charge of your career you will be able to advance. So some assumptions is that with larger companies your career growth may be stymied due to lack of available positions at the top; I think this issue also exists at smaller companies. I do think it is noteworthy that at smaller companies, you may be required to have more responsibility due to the lack of manpower around you. Sometimes you may be thrust in higher level positions or making higher level decisions earlier on in your career than if you go through corporate America. But overall I do believe that those who take ownership and steer their career than have their career steer them will get to where they want to go regardless of company size.

Structure and Creativity
Large companies have a lot of structure and systems in place which can be good and bad. Though it's not necessary to fill out a checklist for every little thing you do, it's also good to have some sort of system and protocol when it comes to making decisions. Standardization can be used if used effectively. But with smaller companies I do see that it forces you to be more creative and out of the box.

Impact
Nowadays I think employees care a lot more about the difference they make in the workplace; a paycheck isn't enough for fulfillment at work. And again, I think this can be felt at either a small or large company depending on the level of effort you put in. Now, there is a decent argument made to say that smaller companies can give you a greater opportunity to make a difference, but I wouldn't say that you can't make a difference as an entry level employee at a large company.

Stability
I think stability is more about an industry than whether the company is large or small. Larger companies can have the capacity to move you from state to state when work slows down, but if you don't want to move, you'll likely just be let go; whereas a smaller company may try to keep their employees going and weather the tough times; to a point however.
