Unsettling Desires: Old House. Full.

One night, in my usual state of paranoia, my heavy eyelids succumbed to sleep. The dream realm greeted me, placing me in front of a piano I had recently started learning to play. Feeling an inexplicable need to talk to my mom, I sat up and called out. Her appearance around the corner, however, was deeply unsettling. Her crazed look and artificial smile instilled discomfort, an eerie distortion of human expression.
“Mom…?” I managed to utter in a barely audible voice. I stood there, fixated on her, as she eerily returned my gaze with that crazed look and a maniacal smile. Suddenly, she whipped around the corner, and what followed was the most nightmarish experience I had ever encountered. A loud, shrill noise and rhythmic clanging reverberated at an unbearable volume. As I stared at my mother, an overwhelming dread gripped my heart, almost making it feel as though it would explode. Grotesque sounds of bones snapping out of place, things sliding around, and fluids shifting emanated from her contorting body. Her face morphed into something more demonic than human, hunched over like a wild creature, with anomalies defying natural order. Advancing toward me, each movement produced disgusting popping and cracking sounds, her eyes reflecting pure evil and sadistic desire. The feeling of terror and dread was so palpable and intense, it manifested as a physical sensation in my chest.
Just as my nightmare-mother approached, I snapped awake. My chest felt almost painful, and my heart pounded harder than ever. What made it even more distressing was the realization that I couldn't call for my mom; doing so would only exacerbate my panic. I couldn't summon my dad without involving her. With no one to reach out to, fear overwhelmed me, and I felt on the verge of tears. Suddenly, a faint knocking sound pierced the silence, accompanied by a whisper repeating a single word. Straining to decipher it, I made out, “Chrissstopheeer…” My heart sank at the eerie elongation of my name. “Christopher honey… are you ok? It sounded like you had a very bad dream…” I recognized the voice as my mother’s, and despite the recent nightmare, relief washed over me. It takes a lot to be scared of your own mom, and she seemed far better than my initial fears.
“Mom…?” I weakly uttered. It wasn’t typical for her to speak to me without entering my room, and something about her voice sounded off. However, she did eventually enter. “She” floated into the room, initially resembling my mother. Then I noticed it – her eyes were nothing but hollow sockets. Despite the shock, I didn't run. Maybe I should have, but the surreal experience left me in disbelief. I managed to choke out a few words, “Who – who are you?” It, or she, responded with an awful smile, long from ear to ear, and somewhat wavy, resembling a poorly made clay figure. “I’m your mother, of course.” A strong urge to retort surged within me; this thing was not my mother. I didn't know what it was, but it was not human. All I knew was that it wanted to deceive me, and I refused to play along. “No, you're not!”
