Inside a Classified Government Research Facility Unveiling My Journal Entries Part 4
Entry 14 – April 13th,
On a positive note, we've located other survivors from different parts of the lab who experienced sickness similar to Mia and me. Unfortunately, they're too distant for regular, safe meetings. Those remaining in our vicinity seem to have lost their individuality, moving as a collective entity. Any actions not aligned with project goals provoke aggression. My only sanctuary is my room, where my candle stash helps mask the unsettling odor emanating from the walls and desks.
Our efforts have narrowed down our team to five individuals: Mia, myself, Cell Biology Director Liu Chen, Lead Engineering Specialist Sarah McCarthy, and security officer Kamaran Reaves. We established an encrypted group chat, knowing it wasn't entirely secure on government servers. Despite this, we devised a plan. Morrison and other directors were coordinating with another lab to transfer one of our hatched specimens. A convoy, accompanied by engineers and scientists, would provide training and a debrief of our findings. This presented our opportune moment. With fewer personnel in the lab, focused on the convoy, and our coworkers preoccupied with their "uniform" thinking, slipping out during this transport seemed feasible.
However, Kamaran lacked the authority for unrestricted access. Sarah, as lead engineer, could request entry for "maintenance checks," and Director Chen had the power to grant access, possibly upgrading Reaves with necessary clearances. Our plan was straightforward: wait for the convoy, rendezvous near the front, and walk out. The challenge lies in the sixty-mile trek to civilization, with armed security monitoring exits. To bypass this, we would use the directors' tracked vehicles, convincing external security that we were escorting Chen for a debrief. They should only scan Chen and Kamaran's ID cards, allowing us to drive beyond shooting range, abandon the vehicle, and hike back to civilization. While not ideal, it's the best plan we've devised so far. Here's hoping we avoid the fate of having our brains consumed by spores.
Entry 15 – May 1st,
Today marked a significant turning point. Chen secured a date for the convoy, closer than we anticipated. To prepare, we initiated our plan ahead of schedule. Our focus was on securing approvals for Reaves, slowing down security systems, and directing staff towards meaningless tasks. Simultaneously, I intensified my efforts to impede security resource needs and synchronize intensive project deadlines with our escape. Unexpectedly, Kamaran provided a mysterious box containing a compact, foldable gun with three emergency rounds. The gravity of our situation hit me when he messaged the group with, "Three shots. Emergencies only."
