Cosplay Craft: Sewing Nylons and More to Make Fabric Look Like Skin

Ready, set, cosplay! Learn techniques for sewing stretch fabric to make custom cosplay pieces, such as floating armor pieces and sleeves that mimic tattoos or unnatural-colored skin. Sewing nylon and other knitwear and be difficult but Alex will show us all the tips and tricks to turn nylons and other fabric into a costume miracle material!

For this program you will need:
- sewing machine and thread
- nylon microfiber tights
- heat and bond hem tape
- iron
- serger
- fray check
- clear nail polish
- pins
- sewing scissors
- a variety of stretch fabric

Alex Bell is a competitive cosplayer from Atlanta who has a degree in costume technology and a wig-making certification. They have been cosplaying since 2014. They won cosplay awards for best in show at Atlanta Comic Con and Best Journeyman Fabrication at Momocon for their Na'vi from Avatar cosplay. They are currently a graduate student working on research relating to traditional clothing and costume from East Asia with the intent to teach their research at the college level.
