Lot 258 - Hamilton Meadowbrook in platinum, exceedingly rare
Estimate: $1,800 - 3,000 USD

WW - Hamilton Meadowbrook, manual wind, 29mm x 33mm to lug tips, 16mm male lug width, original platinum snap back case by Schwab & Wuischpard, brown leather strap, cleaned original silvered dial with applied gold indices and black enamel painted accents, 17J cal 987, s#4006204, triple signed. Gross weight of assembled watch without strap 18.6 dwt (29.0 g). When it comes to rare production Hamilton models, it's hard to imagine anything rarer than this. With only 17 having been produced and even less having survived to present day, this is a unique opportunity for the Hamilton collector to get one of the rarest and seldom seen models for their collection. The case for this watch was handmade by Schwab & Wuischpard who made the other 14K white and yellow gold cases for Hamilton. The major difference with their cases was that the 14K gold cases were invoiced to Hamilton at $13.50 whereas the platinum cases were invoiced at $115.50. After everything else, they were offered for sale in the late 1920s for an eye-watering $400 on a platinum buckle.

CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, light oxide to steelwork; fine-plus cleaned dial which retains almost all of its enamel painted minute track and subsidiary seconds, ample spotting to perimeter; excellent gold hands; lightly polished case shows very little wear, still retains most of the original factory finishing, several light dings and scrapes typical of a watch of this age; original platinum crown shows little wear; excellent shaped glass crystal.
