Lesson 5: "Rolling" the Pattern through 2 Measures.

If your playing a song where a chord is played for 2 measures in a row, you may elect to roll those 2 measures together. I'll show you what I mean.
Isn't it ironic? We go through all the effort to painstakingly memorize the pattern and assigning it to muscle memory, only to tear it all down and learn how to play the measure differently. There's an urge to vary the pattern along the way as dictated by the structure of the song.
During the intro and outro, and any instrumental interludes, you may add a melody line entwined within the chords. During the lyrics you may elect to only play part of the pattern, maybe just the bass notes. Other times you may want to "roll" through the two measures. Let me show you what I mean.
This is the 5th lesson in a series designed to help beginning guitarists learn how to Travis pick. Please start at lesson 1 and proceed through the series in orderer maximum efficacy in your quest to fingerpick. Follow-up each lesson with the accompanying Exercises. I've created folders for the Lessons and the Exercises on my YouTube channel. Please subscribe and hit the notification button to automatically receive future lessons and exercises.
