Bassist and Drummer Laying Down Studio Track

Bear with me. It was kinda dark in the studio, but dig this ... I'm retired and can do anything I want (almost). So I visited my cousin at his recording studio. He was setting up Brian (the drummer), and Bill (the bassist), for a recording/composing session. These guys are 2/3 of a jazz fusion band. The guitarist will come in later and lay down his track.
Now I'm just a 4 or 5-chord folksinger/cover kinda guy... but for all my real YouTube musician friends... is it just me or does funk just drip off these guys or what?!
