Did Iranian Ships Really Break America's Blockade? The US Military Responds

The United States military is pushing back against media reports suggesting Iranian-linked commercial vessels successfully evaded its naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world's most critical waterways for global oil supply.

According to a statement posted on X by US Central Command (Centcom), American forces have intercepted a total of 29 vessels since the blockade began. Centcom specifically addressed two Iranian-flagged tankers — the Hero II and the Hedy — which were cited in media coverage as having bypassed the blockade as part of a flotilla. The military firmly rejected this claim, stating both vessels are currently anchored at Chah Bahar port in Iran after being intercepted by US forces.

A third ship, the Dorena, attempted to "violate" the blockade and is now being escorted through the Indian Ocean by a US Navy destroyer — a clear show of enforcement capability far beyond the immediate region.

Centcom's statement carried a deliberate and pointed message: "American forces are operating and enforcing the blockade across the Middle East and beyond," underscoring that US naval power is not confined to a single chokepoint.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital passage through which approximately 20% of the world's oil supply flows. Any disruption — or perceived breakdown — of a naval blockade there carries enormous implications for global energy markets, regional security, and US-Iran tensions.

This development comes as international attention remains fixed on escalating military and diplomatic activity in the Middle East. The US military's swift and detailed rebuttal signals a deliberate effort to maintain credibility and project strength amid growing scrutiny of its operations.
