Ой, у лузі червона калина - Oi u luzi chervona kalyna

This is a well-known Ukrainian patriotic song about a kalyna. The Latin name for kalyna is viburnum opulus, a shrub with white flowers. In Dutch it is better known as the 'Gelderse roos'. The 'rose' grows throughout Ukraine, especially in the steppe areas. In the song, the kalyna hangs bent, but by cheering on Ukraine, the rose will stand proud again. Currently, the song is being performed a lot again due to the recent war with Russia.

JIP Chamber Choir is a project choir from Utrecht, the Netherlands, founded in 2013 by brothers Jonathan and Imre Ploeg. JIP wants to present new and unknown choir music from all over the world, brought together in surprising, engaging and fundamental themes like war and peace, the nomadic life, the refugee crisis and the ecological crisis.
