The Iranian poet Nasim Khaksar ended up as an exile in the Netherlands in 1983. In the poem 'Taraneye ghamgine tabiedi' (Sad song of exile) he describes his homesickness for his homeland. He could not settle in the cold, wet Netherlands. Rain is central to the poem and is metaphorical for Khaksar's tears.

The Spanish composer Maripepa Contreras (1989) took Khaksar's poem as a starting point with her composition 'Barane Sobh' and beautifully depicts the feelings of displacement: you can hear the rain from the poem in the music. Gradually the poet reconciles himself with his situation and decides not to remain stuck in sadness and loneliness: “No! A person should not end up like this.” The clouds of gloom disappear and the poet feels hope for the future. Contreras expresses this change in the poet's attitude by increasing the tempo and giving the music a more forward direction. At the end of the piece the rain sounds again, but now the poet can see the beauty in it.
