‘Extremely concerning’: Anxieties grow over China-Russia relations
Former Deputy Prime Minister John Anderson says reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin has asked the Chinese government for military and economic aid to assist with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is “extremely concerning”.
“Our Prime Minister … has framed this problem. We are facing an arc of autocracy – a real battle between the rules-based liberal, global order that has been in place since the end of the Second World War that has served countries like Australia so well and indeed served China so well,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“It’s a battle between that and a new authoritarian, global management approach if you like.
“If there’s one issue that should be playing most strongly in voters’ minds, it is who is best able to secure Australia’s freedom into the future in the uncertain world that we face.”
