TORA TODA ASDA LDA Explanation - [Stopway, Clearway and Displaced threshold]
The TORA, TODA, ASDA and LDA are takeoff and landing declared distances.
In order to understand in full these distances, we have to know what a Stopway a Clearway and a Displaced Threshold is.
Every Airport has 2 different runway directions for takeoff and Landing.
The TORA, TODA, ASDA and LDA can be different from one direction to the other of the same runway.
The stopway, the clearway or the displaced threshold may be present in one side only, in both sides or on neither side of the runway.
So, for example, if you have the stopway on one side of the runway only you have two different ASDAs depending on the takeoff direction.
The TORA (Takeoff Run Available) is the available runway length useable for the ground run of the aircraft during takeoff. It is the distance from the threshold (or displaced Threshold if available) to the other end of the runway or the end of the stopway if available.
The TODA (Takeoff Distance Available) is the length of the TORA plus the Clearway if available, this distance is used to start the takeoff run and transit into the initial climb phase.
The ASDA (Accelerate Stop Distance Available) is the length of the TORA plus the stopway of available. The ASDA is calculated in case of a rejected takeoff.
The LDA (Landing Distance Available) is the length of the runway useable for landing and it goes from the threshold to the end of the runway or the end of the displaced threshold if available.
