Kate Leeming | Adventure Cyclist
Considered as one of Australia’s leading women explorers, Kate has cycled a distance equivalent to twice around the world at the Equator. Kate’s last two major expeditions, 25,000km through Australia and 22,000km west to east across Africa (from Senegal to Somalia) were Official Activities for the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. For the last five years, Kate has been working towards her Breaking the Cycle South Pole expedition, the physical aim of which is to make the first bicycle crossing of the Antarctic continent via the South Pole. So far she has performed three preparatory polar expeditions in Svalbard (Norway), Northeast Greenland and Arctic Canada. In 2018, a series of six preparatory expeditions is planned - one on each continent - to ensure Kate is in peak condition (not exhausted) for the main Antarctic expedition. There will be opportunities for students to follow the expeditions (Mexico, Iceland, Australia, Namibia, Bolivia, the Indian Himalaya and Antarctica) and partake in Kate's experiential learning education program via the platform: www.BreakingtheCycle.education More information on www.KateLeeming.com
